Romans 1:16-17

·       For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

o   For I am not ashamed

§  If we truly believe something, we won’t be ashamed of it. If we believe that Georgia will win the national championship or that the Falcons will win the Super Bowl, we will tell people about it.

o   It is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, Jew then Gentile.

§  Paul gives the reason why he is not ashamed. It is the salvation that comes from God to anyone who believes.

§  First to the Jew is pointing that the Jews were God’s chosen people. He fulfilled the promises He made to them in the OT by having the Messiah be one of them. But, their rejection of Christ opened the door for the Messiah to go to the gentiles, the people that the Jews considered to be “unclean”.

o   For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—

§  We see the righteousness of God revealed in the scriptures. His perfect law is shown to us, and what is required for salvation.

o   A righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith

§  As the righteous everything in our lives should be dictated by our faith. Every action that we take should be a reflection of our faith in Christ.

·       Evangelism

o   εὐαγγέλιον (Euaggelion)- Gospel, good news

o   “Is the distinctive NT Greek term for the “gospel”. The good news of the consummation of God’s plan of salvation, forgiveness for sin and promise of eternal life and peace with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.”

·       Daily Prayer

o   We should pray three things every morning when it comes to evangelism:

o   An opportunity to share the gospel

o   The wisdom to see it

o   The Boldness to take it

o   “Boldness is going one step beyond my comfort zone”

·       SPEAK UP!

o   S- Seek God in prayer

o   P- Preach the Gospel to ourselves

o   E- Evangelistic (gospel) conversation

o   A- Ask their story

o   K- Keep your optimism

o   U- Use your story

o   P- Plan to share

      We need to pray for

Ourselves that we have the confidence to share the gospel.

For God to put someone on our heart to share the gospel with.

Those that God puts in our path to speak to.

Luke 19:10- “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost”

1 Timothy 2:1-4: “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Be confident in what you believe

Remind yourself consistently of who Christ is and what He has done for us.

God placed us in this time for a specific reason

We have a purpose for being here

Remember this when you feel led to share the gospel

Evangelistic (gospel) Conversation

·       Evangelistic Presentation

o   Talk at someone

o   Just getting through a tract

o   Impersonal

·       Evangelistic Conversation

o   Takes the pressure off of the witness and relates the gospel more clearly to an unbeliever

Presentation                                        Conversation

Start in our world view                                 Start in their WV

Assumes other person knows gospel                   Assumes OP doesn’t know the Gospel

Focuses on “sinner”                                               Focuses on Imago Dei

Effective with church people                       Effective regardless of background

Focuses on immediate decision                            Hopes for decision but keeps talk going

Ask Their Story

·       The gospel is unchanging but deals with any issue that a person may have.

o   Ask their story

o   Ask good questions

o   You can affirm them as a person without affirming their lifestyle. (We are all created in the image of God.

o   Focus on their heart as well as their mind

o   Connect with them beyond just the surface (passion or pain, make yourself relatable.)

·       Go in expecting people will be open to the Gospel.

·       If you have the expectation that they will not listen to what you have to say, you will focus too much on your negative expectation rather than reality.

·       Luke 12:11-12

o   11 “And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.”

·       Tell people about how Jesus has worked and is working in your life.

·       Let them see that Christ has changed you.

·       People can argue scripture, but they can’t argue a changed life

·       Every time that Paul was in front of a crowd or had the opportunity, he shared his testimony

·       The less you share Jesus the more stressful it is

·       Take small steps to share the gospel more

·       The more you do something, the more natural it becomes

·       Therefore, the more you share the gospel the easier it will become.
