May 17, 2017 (H2BEC Reading the Bible 2)


 In scripture, there are over 100 verses that tell us the value of reading the bible. It gives us wisdom, knowledge, understanding of whom Christ is and what salvation is, grow spiritually and allows us to grow closer to God.

Scripture is Alive:

·         2 Tim 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[
a] may be complete, equipped for every good work.

·         Genesis 2:7
7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

·         Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Scripture guides us through life:

·         Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

·         Matthew 15:14 (When we allow other people to guide us instead of God)
14 Let them alone; they are blind guides. [a] And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

·         Joshua 1:8
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

·         Psalm 1:2
but his delight is in the law[a] of the Lord,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.

Scripture feeds every part of us

·         Matthew 4:4
But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
    but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

·         Hebrews 4:12

·         Psalm 119:10-11
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Scripture gives us hope:

·         Psalm 119:18
Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.

·         Romans 15:4
4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

·         Romans 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

·         Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Scripture is eternal:

·         Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

·         Matthew 24:35
(Jesus speaking) Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Conclusion:

The reason we have the bible is that it is the word of God. These verses are given life by God, guide us as we walk through life, nourish us spiritually and emotionally, gives us hope, and shows us that His word is eternal. The bible is not just a book, but it is the words given to us by God to allow us to know Him and know what He has done for us. We read it and meditate on it so that we may grow closer to Him and find His will for our life and to be faithful to Him.
