May 24, 2017 (H2BEC: Worship 1)

What is it?           The feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity

Is worship only directed towards God?   No

Is it just music? No

What should our mindset be towards worship? Luke 18:9-14

Pharisee and the tax collector

Psalm 103:1

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.”

2 Chronicles 20:1-2

·         Let’s rally the troops, right?... wrong

2 Chronicles 20:3-4

·         Let’s pray

Jehoshaphat’s prayer

2 Chronicles 20:5-13

·         Heart of Worship

o   Jehoshaphat praises God for what He has already done for them.

o   The posture of his heart is worshipful

o   He acknowledges that God is not like them, that He is higher than them.

o   He shows the humility of the Israelites by proclaiming that everything that has been done has been done by God.

2 Chronicles 20:14-17

·         God answered Jehoshaphat’s prayer

·         God speaks through Jahaziel

·         He gives Jehoshaphat a message of hope.
“Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.”

·         How would we respond in this situation?

·         Jahaziel tells them exactly what is going to happen to the enemy armies.

·         He tells Jehoshaphat that they won’t even have to fight but that God will fight for them. They are told to just stand back and watch.

Jehoshaphat’s response

2 Chronicles 20:18-19

·         Jehoshaphat fell on his face to worship God.

·         All of Judah and Jerusalem fell on their face to worship God.

·         The Levites praised God in a loud voice

2 Chronicles 20:20-23

Israel worshipped, God confused the enemies

·         They worshipped in thankfulness

·         They worshipped in song

·         They worshipped in dance

·         God showed up in a big way

o   He confused the enemies and they attacked each other until all were dead.

2 Chronicles 20:24-25

The Bigness of God

·         God moved in a big way

·         The God in 2 Chronicles is the same God that we worship today

·         When we worship Him, He moves in a great and mighty way.

·         The Creator of the universe is waiting for us to call out to Him.

Conclusion:

´  “Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.”

´  Every one of us is going through some type of battle: physical, emotional or spiritual.

´  Even when we the only thing we can see is the fight ahead, when we are worshipping God, we can have peace in knowing that He is going to be there.

´  In fact, according to this scripture, the battle is not ours but God’s.

´  Knowing this, it should make it much easier to worship God.
